How does it work?

Step 1: Backup creation

Backups jobs are run normally at the your end. They can be set to send the data to Synotio immediately or first saved locally and then replicated.

Step 2: Replication

Veeam sends the backup data over to our secure site i Västervik. All traffic is encrypted in transit. Optionally, the backup data can be encrypted to ensure only you have the ability to read it.

Step 3: Storage

Your backup data is now protected off-site in our hardened repositories. Any deleted data will be retained for multiple additional weeks to protect from accidental removal or ransomware attacks.

The Västervik datacenter

In 1953, the Swedish military built a command center in Västervik for protection against chemical, radiological, nuclear and explosive threats. After having been taken over by the civil defense authority in the 1970s and modernized in the 1980s, it was sold and converted to a datacenter.

Through careful system design and site selection, we are able to provide backup immutability with best in class security.

Conventional Weapons

The site is rated to withstand direct hits from artillery projectiles and 500kg flight bombs.

Nuclear weapons

The facility has doors capable of withstanding air blast waves from tactical nuclear weapons. It also features additional protection for keeping out radioactive fallout.

Chemical weapons

With gas tight doors and air intakes that feature a mix between active coal filters and fine particle filters, the air intakes are rated for protection against attacks with chemical weapons.

Electromagnetic Pulse (EMP)

With specially designed rooms for protecting sensitive electronics against attacks by high-intensity electromagnetic pulse weapons, your data is retained exceptionally well.

We believe that raising your readiness level should be as cost effective under ground as above ground.
Our prices are therefore at the same level as other established players who use standard above-ground datacenters.
